SSI, Social Security, SNAP and Tax Refund Payment Dates: The Next 12 Months, Worked Out From the Rules
When SSI, Social Security, SNAP and tax refunds come, from each agency's own rules, with every state's SNAP days and what to do if a payment is late.

The next SSI payment is on Tuesday, December 1, 2026: it is the payment for December 2026. Social Security is paid on the second, third or fourth Wednesday of the month, depending on your birthday, or on the 3rd for some people. SNAP comes on days each state sets for itself, and a tax refund that claims the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit cannot come before February 15, 2027. Every date on this page is worked out from the agency’s own published rule, never from a rumour, and only the agency can say what happened to your own payment.
When is the next SSI payment?
SSI (Supplemental Security Income) is paid on the 1st of each month, and each payment is the money for that month. When the 1st is a Saturday, a Sunday or a federal holiday, the payment comes on the last working day before it. That is the rule in the regulation, 20 CFR 416.502, and it is why the dates below are sometimes in the month before.
| Payment for | Paid on | Why that day |
|---|---|---|
| December 2026 | Tue, Dec 1 | On the 1st |
| January 2027 | Thu, Dec 31 | Paid early: the 1st is New Year’s Day, a federal holiday |
| February 2027 | Mon, Feb 1 | On the 1st |
| March 2027 | Mon, Mar 1 | On the 1st |
| April 2027 | Thu, Apr 1 | On the 1st |
| May 2027 | Fri, Apr 30 | Paid early: the 1st is a Saturday |
| June 2027 | Tue, Jun 1 | On the 1st |
| July 2027 | Thu, Jul 1 | On the 1st |
| August 2027 | Fri, Jul 30 | Paid early: the 1st is a Sunday |
| September 2027 | Wed, Sep 1 | On the 1st |
| October 2027 | Fri, Oct 1 | On the 1st |
| November 2027 | Mon, Nov 1 | On the 1st |
Two SSI payments come in December 2026 (December 1, 2026 and December 31, 2026); April 2027 (April 1, 2027 and April 30, 2027); July 2027 (July 1, 2027 and July 30, 2027): the second is the next month's payment, paid early. It is not extra money, and the next month has none.
Sources: 20 CFR 416.502 Manner of payment (eCFR (Office of the Federal Register)); Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments (calendars for 2026 and 2027) (Social Security Administration); Federal Holidays (U.S. Office of Personnel Management). Checked November 1, 2026.
Worked out by this site from the rules above and OPM's list of federal holidays; SSA's own calendars for 2026 and 2027 show the same days.
The next payment that comes early is on Thursday, December 31, 2026, because the 1st is New Year’s Day, a federal holiday. It is the payment for January 2027, not an extra one. Social Security said the first SSI payments with the 2027 cost-of-living increase begin on December 31, 2026 (SSA, October 14, 2026): that is the January 2027 payment, paid early because January 1 is New Year’s Day.
Why do some months have two SSI payments and others none?
Because an early payment lands in the month before. When the 1st of a month falls on a weekend or a holiday, that month’s SSI is paid on the last working day of the month before. That month then shows two payments, its own on the 1st and next month’s at the end, and the next month shows none.
It is not extra money, and you do not have to report it or pay it back. Social Security says so on its own blog: the second payment “does not mean that you are receiving a duplicate payment in the previous month, so you do not need to contact us to report the second payment” (SSA blog). Plan for the gap: money that arrives on the 30th or 31st has to last until the 1st of the month after next.
The note under the table above names the months with two payments in the next year.
When is Social Security paid?
Social Security retirement, survivors and disability benefits (SSDI) are paid once a month, on a day set by the birthday of the person whose work record the benefit is paid on (20 CFR 404.1807):
- born on the 1st to the 10th: the second Wednesday of the month;
- born on the 11th to the 20th: the third Wednesday;
- born on the 21st to the 31st: the fourth Wednesday.
Some people are paid on the 3rd of the month instead. The rule names four groups: people on a record where the first application was filed before May 1, 1997; people who also get SSI, or whose income counts for someone on SSI; people living in another country; and people whose state pays their Medicare premium. When the Wednesday or the 3rd is a weekend or a federal holiday, the payment comes on the working day before.
| Month | Birthday 1st–10th | 11th–20th | 21st–31st | Paid on the 3rd |
|---|---|---|---|---|

| Jan 2027 | Wed, Jan 13 | Wed, Jan 20 | Wed, Jan 27 | Thu, Dec 31early: weekend |
| Feb 2027 | Wed, Feb 10 | Wed, Feb 17 | Wed, Feb 24 | Wed, Feb 3 |
| Mar 2027 | Wed, Mar 10 | Wed, Mar 17 | Wed, Mar 24 | Wed, Mar 3 |
| Apr 2027 | Wed, Apr 14 | Wed, Apr 21 | Wed, Apr 28 | Fri, Apr 2early: weekend |
| May 2027 | Wed, May 12 | Wed, May 19 | Wed, May 26 | Mon, May 3 |
| Jun 2027 | Wed, Jun 9 | Wed, Jun 16 | Wed, Jun 23 | Thu, Jun 3 |
| Jul 2027 | Wed, Jul 14 | Wed, Jul 21 | Wed, Jul 28 | Fri, Jul 2early: weekend |

| Oct 2027 | Wed, Oct 13 | Wed, Oct 20 | Wed, Oct 27 | Fri, Oct 1early: weekend |
The birthday is the birthday of the person whose work record the benefit is paid on. The last column is for people who started getting Social Security before May 1997, people who also get SSI, and the other groups the rule names. A date in grey has passed.
Sources: 20 CFR 404.1807 Monthly payment day (eCFR (Office of the Federal Register)); Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments (calendars for 2026 and 2027) (Social Security Administration); Federal Holidays (U.S. Office of Personnel Management). Checked November 1, 2026.
Worked out by this site from the rules above and OPM's list of federal holidays; SSA's own calendars for 2026 and 2027 show the same days.
The next payments are on Tuesday, November 10, 2026 for birthdays from the 1st to the 10th, Wednesday, November 18, 2026 for the 11th to the 20th, Wednesday, November 25, 2026 for the 21st to the 31st, and Tuesday, November 3, 2026 for people paid on the 3rd. Social Security publishes the same days each year as a calendar (SSA’s payment calendars); its newest calendar is for 2027.
What if I get both SSI and Social Security?
Then you get two payments a month: SSI on the 1st and Social Security on the 3rd. Social Security’s own calendar says it in one line: “If you received Social Security before May 1997 or if receiving both Social Security & SSI, Social Security is paid on the 3rd and SSI on the 1st” (SSA calendar). Both move back when they fall on a weekend or a holiday, so in some months both come in the month before.
When will my SNAP (EBT) benefits come?
On a day your state sets. Federal rules do not fix the days of the month. They say only that every household is put on a schedule “so that they receive their benefits on or about the same date each month”, that a state may spread the days across the month, and that a household on SNAP for more than two full months must not go more than 40 days between two payments (7 CFR 274.2).
So each state has its own rule: by the last digits of a case number, of a client ID or of a Social Security number, by the first letter of a last name, by a birth year, or one day for everyone. Choose your state to see its rule as its own page states it, with that page and the day we checked it. Where a state’s page could not be read, it says “Not checked yet”: the day is printed on your approval notice, and your state’s EBT customer service line can tell you.
Choosing a state only opens its part of this page. Nothing is sent or saved.

22 of 51 states and DC print a rule we could read on their own pages. For the others, the day is on your approval notice, and the state's EBT line can tell you.
Some states say on their own pages that benefits arrive on the same day even on weekends and holidays; North Carolina, Minnesota and South Dakota are examples in the list. Cash help (TANF) is often on the same card but on its own day; where a state’s page gives that day, it is under the state too.
When do new SNAP applicants get their first benefits?
Within 30 days of the day you applied, if you qualify. A household that qualifies for expedited (faster) service must get benefits by the 7th day after it applied (7 CFR 274.2(b)). After that, the household moves onto the state’s regular schedule.
What about Summer EBT (SUN Bucks)?
Summer EBT, which many states call SUN Bucks, is a one-time grocery payment for school-age children in the summer. For summer 2026 it was $120 for each child in 48 states and DC ($40 a month for three months), $189 in Hawaii, and more in Alaska (Federal Register, April 22, 2026). Children who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals can get it, and many are enrolled without applying (7 CFR 292).
Each state chooses whether to take part. Choose your state above to see whether it took part in 2026 and what its page said. The federal rules let a state pay the whole summer at once or in parts, with the first payment before the summer starts (7 CFR 292). The amounts for 2027 come from a later federal notice.
When will my tax refund come if I claim the EITC or the Child Tax Credit?
Not before the middle of February. By law the IRS cannot send a refund on a return that claims the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit (the part of the Child Tax Credit paid as a refund) before the 15th day of February, and the IRS holds the whole refund, not only the credit (26 U.S.C. 6402(m)). For returns for tax year 2026, that is February 15, 2027.
Tax refunds with the EITC or ACTC
When the refund can come
- Not before
- Monday, February 15, 2027For a return that claims the EITC or the Additional Child Tax Credit, the law does not let the IRS send any of the refund before the 15th day of February, and the IRS holds the whole refund, not only the credit.
- Last season
- March 2, 2026The day in 2026 the IRS said most of these refunds would reach bank accounts and cards, for people who chose direct deposit and had no other problem with their return. The IRS had not given a day for 2027 when we checked.

Filing before the middle of February does not get the money sooner than that date. The IRS has been phasing out paper refund checks since September 30, 2025, so a refund goes by direct deposit to an account you name (IRS). Free help to file, from IRS-trained volunteers, is on the list at the end of this page.
Can a payment be late during a government shutdown?
It can, for some programs. This page never repeats a date that an agency has not announced, so here is what the record says and where to look.
Payments can be late, or smaller, when Congress does not pass the money for an agency in time. Federal agencies are funded to December 11, 2026 by a stopgap law (Public Law 119-103). Whether any payment changes after that is for each agency to say.
When we last checked, on November 1, 2026, Social Security's and the IRS's pages showed no notice of a delay. USDA's SNAP pages could not be read from here, so check your state's SNAP agency. This page never repeats a rumoured date: check the agency itself, at ssa.gov, your state's SNAP agency, or the IRS's Where's My Refund.
If an agency changes a payment, its own website is where it says so first: Social Security at ssa.gov, your state’s SNAP agency (on your state’s page on this site), and the IRS at irs.gov. A message that says your payment is at risk unless you pay a fee or give your details is a scam: see Is this real?
What should I do if a payment does not come?
- Social Security or SSI: Social Security asks you to allow three more mail days before you contact it (SSA calendar). Then call Social Security or check your my Social Security account.
- SNAP or cash help on an EBT card: check the date on your approval notice first, then call the EBT customer service number on the back of your card or on your state’s page here. If money is missing from the card, report it at once and change your PIN.
- A tax refund: use Where’s My Refund, where your status shows about 24 hours after you e-file this year’s return.
- Never give your PIN, card number or Social Security number to someone who calls, texts or emails you about a late payment, even if they say they are from the agency.
Why doesn’t this page show the exact day for my SNAP case?
Because the day depends on a number or a letter only your case has, such as the last digits of your case number or the first letter of your last name, and we never ask for those. Use your state’s rule above with your own notice. This page does not check whether a deposit has been made: only your state’s EBT system knows that, through the number on your card or the card’s own website.
How are these dates worked out?
By the same arithmetic the rules describe: take the day the rule names (the 1st, the 3rd or the second, third or fourth Wednesday), and if it is a Saturday, a Sunday or a federal holiday, step back one day at a time until it is a working day. The holidays are the U.S. Office of Personnel Management’s list of federal holidays, as federal employees observe them, so a holiday that falls on a Saturday counts on the Friday before (OPM). We checked the result against Social Security’s own printed calendars for 2026 and 2027, and every SSI day and every Wednesday they mark comes out the same; that check runs every time the site’s data is rebuilt.
The SNAP rules are each state’s own words, read on the state’s own pages. When a state’s page could not be read, or did not print a rule, we say “Not checked yet” and do not guess.

Questions people ask
Is the extra SSI payment at the end of the month a bonus?
No. It is next month’s payment, paid early because the 1st of next month is a weekend or a holiday. Next month you will get no SSI payment, and Social Security says you do not need to report the early one.
Does Social Security pay on a holiday?
No. If your payment day is a federal holiday, such as Veterans Day on a Wednesday, the payment comes on the working day before. The tables above show each day that moves and why.
Why did my SNAP come on a different day this month?
Federal rules say each household gets its SNAP on or about the same date each month, but a state can change its schedule: Connecticut, for example, moved to new days on March 1, 2026. Your approval notice or your state’s EBT line can tell you your day.
When does the IRS start sending EITC refunds?
Not before February 15, 2027 for tax year 2026 returns. Last season the IRS said most of these refunds would be in bank accounts by March 2, 2026 for people who chose direct deposit and had no other problem with their return. It had not given a date for the coming season when we checked.
Is there a new government payment I need to sign up for?
Be careful with any message that says so. Social Security’s cost-of-living increase is automatic, and its Inspector General warns that scammers ask people to pay a fee or share details to “activate” it (SSA OIG). Check any new payment on the agency’s own website before you act.
